Opsgenie migration

Opsgenie end of life arrives April 5, 2027

Here’s what changes, where Atlassian sends you, and what it costs to go somewhere else.

14 days, every feature, no credit card. It ends on day 14 and not before, and nothing is deleted.

What Atlassian has announced

Atlassian is retiring Opsgenie. It stopped selling to new customers on June 4, 2025, and support ends on April 5, 2027, when login, the REST APIs, integrations, and the mobile app all stop working. Existing customers can renew, but only on terms that end before that date.

Date

What happens

What it means for you

June 4, 2025

End of sale

No new purchases and no edition upgrades. If your team grew since then, you’re capped at the seats you already had.

October 2025

Bundled access ended

Affected anyone whose Opsgenie came bundled with Jira Service Management Cloud.

Now

Renewals must end before April 5, 2027

Every renewal you sign in 2026 is a short, terminal term. The decision is live now, not in 2027.

Start + 120 days

Automatic shutdown

If you use Atlassian’s migration tool, Opsgenie switches off 120 days later. Your cutover window is four months, not nineteen.

April 5, 2027

End of support

Login, REST APIs, integrations, and the mobile app stop.

The deadline that matters isn’t 2027

April 2027 sounds far away. The real constraint is closer. The moment you start Atlassian’s migration tool, Opsgenie shuts down automatically 120 days later. So the question isn’t when support ends. It’s whether your escalation policies, on-call rotations, and integrations are all working somewhere else inside four months of the day you begin.

That’s the case for testing a replacement before you touch the migration tool at all. Run the new tool alongside Opsgenie, page a real person from it, and only then start the clock.

Atlassian offers you two destinations

Atlassian points ITSM teams at Jira Service Management and DevOps teams at Compass. Both carry alerting and on-call. Neither includes uptime monitoring, so whatever you use for that stays where it is. Teams replacing everything Opsgenie did sometimes end up with more than one subscription.

If your team is split across both descriptions, which one do you choose? That’s the question worth answering before you start a 120-day clock.

Count every responder, not every ticket handler

Jira Service Management bills per agent. Anyone who needs to receive a page has to be an agent, so the number to multiply isn’t your service desk headcount, it’s everyone in the rotation. That’s the line item teams miss when they estimate the move.

JAMS Incident Management also charges per user, at rates we publish. Starter is $6 per user a month billed annually, and teams of five or fewer stay free. Set your team size below to see exact pricing.

Tailored to your team's needs.

Monthly billing adds $2 per user. SMS and voice figures are per-user rates pooled across your team, so ten Starter users share 500 texts and 100 calls rather than rationing them per person. Extra blocks of 50 cost $100 a month each. Exhausting SMS pauses SMS only, voice keeps working, and email, push, Teams, and Slack are never affected. Admins get an email at 75% and 100% of each allowance.

Alerting, escalation, and on-call in one place

JAMS Incident Management routes alerts to the person who can fix the problem, escalates when nobody answers, and keeps the on-call schedule that decides who that is. Alerting and escalation shouldn’t depend on someone watching a screen.

Six channels

Voice, SMS, push, email, Microsoft Teams, and Slack. Voice and SMS cover the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia today. Contact us for other regions. Every other channel works anywhere.

Policy-driven escalation

Set who gets paged, on which channel, and how long the system waits before it moves to the next person.

Two-way integrations

Azure Monitor, ServiceNow, and Zendesk. Acknowledge or resolve in JAMS and the source system updates too. Email over IMAP works as an alert source.

Single sign-on

OIDC, with setup guides for Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, and Auth0.

Hosted on Microsoft Azure

TLS in transit, stored provider credentials encrypted at rest, tenant isolation, and audit logging.

Job failures open incidents

Teams running JAMS Scheduler can have a failed job open an incident automatically.

Hear what a real page sounds like

Watch an alert route, escalate, and land as a phone call.

Prove it pages the right person before you cut over

You don’t have to choose between testing properly and keeping Opsgenie running. Point a copy of your alerts at JAMS, rebuild one escalation policy, and let both tools page for a week. When the new one is right, start Atlassian’s clock.

1

Start the trial. Every feature is unlocked for 14 days, with 50 SMS and 10 voice calls, and you can invite the whole rotation.

2

Rebuild your highest-severity escalation policy and on-call schedule. Send a real alert through it.

3

Connect the source that matters most, whether that’s Azure Monitor, ServiceNow, Zendesk, a webhook, or email.

4

On day 14 nothing is deleted. Pick a plan, or stay on Free if your team is five people or fewer.

Free carries one alert flow, one on-call schedule, and no escalation policies, so it cannot mirror a real Opsgenie configuration. A parallel run with real escalation needs Starter, which is $150 a month for 25 people.

Frequently asked questions

When exactly does Opsgenie stop working?

April 5, 2027. On that date login, the REST APIs, integrations, and the mobile app stop. Atlassian ended new sales on June 4, 2025.

Can I still renew Opsgenie?

Yes, as long as the term ends before April 5, 2027. That means any renewal signed now is a short, terminal term.

What happens if I use Atlassian's migration tool?

Opsgenie shuts down automatically 120 days after you start. Plan a four-month cutover, not a nineteen-month one.

Where does Atlassian want me to go?

Jira Service Management for ITSM teams, or Compass for DevOps teams. Neither includes uptime monitoring, so you keep whatever you use for that.

How is JAMS Incident Management priced?

Per user. Free covers up to five users at no cost. Starter is $6 per user a month billed annually for up to 25 users, Professional is $16 for up to 50, and Enterprise is custom. Monthly billing adds $2 per user.

What counts against my allowance?

Only SMS and voice calls. Email, push, Microsoft Teams, and Slack are unlimited on every plan, including Free. If you run out of SMS, only SMS pauses. Voice keeps working and the unmetered channels are never affected.

Does adding people to the rotation raise my bill?

No. Seats are a purchase, not a meter. Inviting and removing people never changes what you pay, and invites stop once you reach the users you've paid for.

What does the free trial include?

14 days with every feature unlocked, 50 SMS, 10 voice calls, and no credit card. Invite as many teammates as you like. It ends on day 14 and not before. Nothing is deleted when it ends: choose a paid plan, or continue on Free if you have five users or fewer.

Do I need JAMS Scheduler to use this?

No. JAMS Incident Management is a standalone product. If you do run JAMS Scheduler, a failed job can open an incident automatically.

Which regions get voice and SMS?

The United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia today. Contact us about other regions. Email, push, Microsoft Teams, and Slack work anywhere.
